José Borges dos Santos Júnior took up his current position as Consul General of Brazil in Houston in November 2018. He was previously the Ambassador of Brazil to the Swiss Confederation and the Principality of Liechtenstein from 2016 to 2018.

His vast diplomatic experience includes being Deputy Head of Mission at the Brazilian Financial Office in New York/NY (2006-2008), Deputy Consul-General of Brazil in Los Angeles/CA (2005-2006), Deputy Head of Mission, at the Brazilian Embassy in Bogota/Colombia (1998-2002), as well as postings at the Brazilian Embassy in Brussels/ Belgium (1993-1996), at the Brazilian Embassy in Canberra Australia (1986-89), and at the Consulate-General of Brazil in London/UK (1983-1986).

Mr. Borges also held several positions at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Brasilia: Under-Secretary for Administration (2013- 2016), Director of the Department of Foreign Affairs (2010-2013), Chief of Staff at the Office of the Under-Secretary for Administration (2009-2010), Head of the division of Administrative Services, (2003-2005), Head of the Personnel Division, (1997-1998), Assistant to the Under-Secretary for Administration (1996-1997), Assistant at the Sea, Antarctic and Space Division (1992-1993), Assistant at the Foreign Service Department (1991-1992), Head of the Personnel Division (1989- 1992), Assistant to the Head of the Personnel Division (1980-1983).

From 2002 to 2003, Mr. Borges was the Head of Administration at the Alexandre Gusmão Foundation in Brasilia, Brazil.

He holds a degree from the Brazilian Diplomatic Academy, Instituto Rio Branco (IRBr)
